Double Tracking Line Upgrade On The Cards For Port Of Tanjung Pelepas, Johor Port
The New Straits Times
JOHOR BARU: The 71km-long single rail track between Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Johor Port in Pasir Gudang will be upgraded to a double track to allow for cargo and passenger train services. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the track upgrade was necessary to boost efficiency for cargo and logistic transportation between the two busy ports in the Southern region. He said the project will be undertaken by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).
"From what I have seen, the existing single track is underused and with dual railway track, we can optimise both logistic and ridership service along the route," he said after the Port Week 2016 event organised by the Johor Port Authority. Liow added that he had asked KTMB to work out the details with MMC Corporation, the company which manages the operations at both PTP and Johor Port on allocating special incentives to encourage hauliers to switch to using cargo train service to transport goods between the the two ports.
"As we know, the Pasir Gudang Highway is always congested and by switching to train service, we can reduce congestion and have a seamless logistic operation." he said. 152 reads
