Helping to rehabilitate injured workers

JOHOR BARU: Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) to collaborate on Disability Management through the Return To Work (RTW) and Back Injury Protection and Rehabilitation programme.

The objective of the MoU is to help insured employees suffering from work-related injury or invalidity to be rehabilitated as soon as possible in order for them to return to work.

Socso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the RTW programme was first introduced in 2007.

“The RTW Programme is a comprehensive systematic disability case management programme which provides opportunity for workers to resume employment and reintegrate it back into the society.

“As such, we are very honoured that the leading corporate organisation such as PTP is very keen to work with us and they are willing to provide designated rehabilitation space as well.

“Apart from the designated rehabilitation space, PTP is also willing to provide other forms of assistance for the collaboration on Disability Management between both parties through the Back Injury Protection and Rehabilitation Programme,” he said.

He also added that this will bring positive impact to PTP employees as well as being a catalyst for other organisations to take the same path in making Disability Management a cultural practice and part of human resources.

Through this RTW programme, a total of 23,295 workers have been successfully rehabilitated and were able to go back to work so far.

“RTW programme is a good example of what Socso does to provide a better outreach and social protection to all the workers and to practice the concept of disability management among employers,” he added.

Meanwhile, PTP chief executive officer Marco Neelsen said that PTP is very committed in fulfilling its obligations as a caring employer.

“In PTP, we actively promote occupational safety policies, conduct safety and health campaigns in order to reduce the accidentrates.

“We do implement employees’ wellness programme to prevent mishaps to our workers and contractors,” he said.
