PORT of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has earned recognition at the United Nations Global Compact Network Malaysia and Brunei (UNGCMYB) Forward Faster Sustainability Awards 2023.

The award recognised PTP’s initiative in fostering gender equality by hiring female rubber tyre gantry operators and marine pilots, a groundbreaking development in Malaysia’s port sector.

PTP, a partnership between Malaysian MMC Group and Hague-based APM Terminals, has won in multiple categories for their pioneering efforts in gender equality, sustainable infrastructure partnerships, and diversity initiatives.

The awards ceremony took place on Nov 24, 2023 at Park Royal Collection Kuala Lumpur, celebrating PTP’s dedication to breaking barriers, promoting gender equality, and fostering sustainability.

PTP chairman Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh expressed his pride in the port’s sustainability journey, emphasising their commitment to infuse sustainability into all activities.

“As Malaysia’s leading transshipment terminal and amongst the world’s busiest ports, we take pride in trailblazing the steps of sustainability.

“Sustainability is core to our business, and we are committed to finding innovative ways to empower the agenda.

“This means that sustainability is embedded into everything that we do — from how we manage our business, to how we operate as a terminal operator, to how we support and contribute to the societal development objectives of the country,” he said in a statement.

The awards programme, initiated by UNGCMYB, aims to recognise member companies’ sustainability efforts and motivate others to incorporate sustainability into their business strategies.

Earlier this month, PTP also published its 2022 Sustainability Report, which serves as a valuable resource for stakeholders as they continue their sustainability efforts.
