Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) continues to step up its efforts towards becoming a green port and offering advanced vessel traffic monitoring process with inception of Marine Resource Management System (MRMS) and Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information System (VTMIS).

In a statement yesterday, PTP said the systems, which had the ability to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, were yet another example of its continuing investment in green technology and sustainable development.

Its acting chief executive officer Johannes De Jong said environmental sustainability was well-recognised in the port’s governing policies.

He said MRMS and VTMIS could improve the environment and further strengthen the safety and security of vessel navigation within the PTP terminal.

“One of the main services provided by these systems is to provide PTP with much greater levels of situational awareness, with integrated sensors and communication services that can cover an area well beyond capability of the human eye.

“The systems are also able to provide information on dynamic weather conditions and offers real-time vessel status information to all customers, hence decisions can be made effectively,” De Jong said.

Johor Port Authority general manager Razif Ahmad said the systems enabled the port operator to minimise potential harmful environmental impact to the stakeholders and its surrounding.
