The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has embarked on the latest Marine Resource Management System (MRMS) and Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information System (VTMIS) to step up its measures towards becoming a green port.

The systems have the ability to reduce the company's carbon footprint specifically paper usage, said PTP Acting Chief Executive Officer Johannes De Jong in a statement today.

He said the MRMS and VTMIS would enable PTP to improve the environment and further strengthen the safety and security of vessel navigation within the PTP terminal.

"One of the main services provided by these systems is to provide PTP with much greater levels of situational awareness, with integrated sensors and communication services, which can cover an area that is well beyond the capability of the human eye.

"The systems are also able to provide information on dynamic weather conditions," he said, adding the systems also offered real time vessel status information to all the customers, hence decisions can be made effectively.

VTMIS is a service that primarily provides improvement in terms of efficiency of vessel traffic movement and improves safety of navigation within port approaches or through hazardous areas.

The systems were acquired from a joint collaboration between PTP, a joint-venture company of MMC Corporation Bhd and APM Terminals; and Johor Port Authority.
