PORT of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) recently organised a day-long UPSR motivational talk for 130 UPSR 2016 exam candidates from 13 primary schools in Gelang Patah, Johor. The Johor-based port operator, which is the country's biggest single port operator and a subsidiary of MMC Corp Bhd, collaborated with the Johor Baru Education Department in a bid to help the Year 6 students with learning techniques to improve their performance in the examination.

Hosted at the Gelang Patah Multipurpose Hall, the talk conducted by motivational speaker Tengku Asmadi Tengku Mohamad also provided the students with invaluable tips to be mentally prepared ahead of the major exam scheduled for September 2016.

PTP's interim CEO Steven Yoogalingam said the programme, which is part of the company's ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, is tailor-made to encourage students to learn the effective ways to score while learning the importance of and developing the positives values of teamwork, time management, determination and commitment towards themselves and their future. Johor Baru Education Officer Rodyisnansyah Julaihi said the programme should be lauded and such initiatives should be emulated by other corporate companies.

"Organising such a programme will help our students to improve their motivation and self-confidence before they sit for their big exam. The schools in Gelang Patah are very lucky to have an organisation like PTP providing various educational programmes for the local students", she added.

The talk is part of PTP's efforts to place an emphasis on the socio-economic development and well-being of the community within the port’s vicinity. Various initiatives are already in the pipeline for other education-related CSR programmes this year, including an educational trip to local universities, distribution of schooling aid, a PTP educational tour and many others.

PTP, Malaysia’s largest container terminal, is a joint venture between MMC (70%), a utilities and infrastructure group, and APM Terminals (30%), a global ports group with a global port network in 62 countries.
