PTP-LPJ Tijarah Ramadhan spreads goodwill once againJUN 07 2018

PELABUHAN Tanjung  Pelepas  Sdn  Bhd (PTP) and  Lembaga Pelabuhan  Johor (LPJ) continue to spread the spirit of goodwill and bring joy to the local community by organising its annual PTP-LPJ Tijarah Ramadhan Programme with the local community.

In essence the annual programme, which began in 2011, aims to alleviate the living standards of the selected local communities.

Laughter and excitement filled the air as a group of 150 underprivileged families, comprising the needy, single parents as well as those from low-income families from Gelang Patah area received food aid package and cash in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Each recipient received aids in the form of shopping vouchers and goods worth RM250.The distribution of aids was made during a handover ceremony by LPJ GM Muhammad Razif Ahmad and breaking of fast event with around 300 members of the local community held at PTP in Gelang Patah.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR)-based event was organised as part of a collaboration effort by both organisations to support and improve the living standards of local communities , according to a statement released by PTP , a subsidiary under MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd , Malaysia ,s largest integrated logistics service provider. MMC Port is a wholly owned subsidiary of conglomerate MMC Corp Bhd.

PTP CEO Marco Neelsen said the programme was also meant to strengthen relationship between the company and the local community.

“Tijarah Ramadhan is part of a comprehensive  MMC Group’s CSR-based programme named ‘MMC  Prihatin’ where it serves as a good platform in fostering greater solidarity and community spirit between PTP and the local communities.

“We hope that the little help that we are extending will bring about some relief to the beneficiaries of the programme in the blessed month of Ramadhan and the comping Hari Raya season,” he said in the statement.

Muhammad Razif said LPJ also undertakes various locations across Johor, especially in Gelang Patah and Pasir Gudang.

“With Tijarah Ramadhan programme for example, it is important that the surrounding PTP communities also benefit from the port’s growth and continued business excellence. We do not want the local folks to feel left out due to the development around their village. We want the villagers to enjoy the economic spill over from the developments of the port,” he said in the same statement.

Among this year’s recipients were a single mother of two from Kampong Ladang , Jah Osman , who  said she was thankful to be a recipient of the programme for this year.

The 81-year-old said she was looking forward to enjoying the food aid packages and cash contribution with her family.

“My family struggles to make ends meet sometimes, so our burden is lessened when we receive these items,” she was quoted in the statement.

Another recipient, Yahaya Ibrahim, 55, from Tg Adang said he was really grateful that PTP and LPJ have been continuously supporting the social wellbeing of the local community, especially the underprivileged people like him.

“The people of Gelang  Patah and its neighbouring areas are lucky that since PTP was developed in 2000 , we have received countless benefits such as employment opportunities ,small business ventures and other social initiatives initiated by both PTP and LPJ ,’ he was quoted as saying.
