PTP sets TEUs world record

New Straits Times

Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, has set a new world record after a vessel departed with a final load of more than 19,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

The milestone was accomplished recently when Monaco Maersk, one of the container ship and supply vessel operator’s second-generation Triple-E vessels, left the port with the record load of 19,284 TEUs, surpassing the 19,190 TEUs achieved by MOL Tribune in February.

PTP chairman and MMC Group managing director Datuk Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh said the latest achievement was a testament to PTP’s commitment in providing “best-in-class service for our customers”.

PTP chief executive officer Marco Neelsen said the feat was made possible due to the passion and commitment of all PTP employees and the parties involved.

“Various continuous investment and improvement activities have been successfully executed and are taking place to ensure that we are able to achieve the targets set forth for this year.

“More importantly, it is to safeguard PTP’s position among the top transshipment hubs in the world,” he said.

Maersk Asia Pacific head of liner operations James Wroe said the record load was the result of outstanding dedication and full focus from everyone to set up the right operational conditions.

The record load for Maersk and PTP marked a strategic progress milestone.

“The Port of Tanjung Pelepas is one of the those terminals where productivity is currently high and, more importantly, reliable over the long term” said Wroe.

PTP recorded a total throughput volume of nine million TEUs last year and was projected to handle a total throughput of 9.5 million TEUs this year.
