PTP wins Malaysia’s 2014 Best Port Award

PORT of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) won Malaysia’s 2014 Best Port Awards in conjunction with World Maritime Day 2015 national level celebrations held in Kuala Lumpur recently.
 
The award, which was presented by Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, is to recognise the port for its continuous positive improvement on productivity in container operations and better optimisation of resources in achieving operational excellence.
 
PTP, which can accommodate 10.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU’s), is currently Malaysia’s biggest single-port operator.
 
The port is a joint venture between MMC Corp Bhd and APOM Terminals, where MMC holds a 70% stake.
 
On winning the award, MMC Corp group MD Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh said the port will continue to improve its service level and further pursue its vision to be the preferred ort of choice in the region.
 
“As a customer-centric organisation which strives to constantly enhance its services, deliver the best customer experience and continuously  work towards upholding its standard within the industry, we are proud that PTP has been awarded with this prestigious award,” said Che Khalib who also the chairman of PTP.
 
It was reported in The Malaysian Reserve (TMR in October that the port was embarking on  a RM5 billion expansion plan over the next three years to cater to the expects increase in vessels and container volumes.
 
PTP expects to increase container handling capacity to 15 million TEUs from its total full capacity of 10.5 million TEUs of containers.
 
The expansion is timely as  the port is reported to near its full capacity.
 
Last year, PTP managed to achieve 8.5 million TEUs of container making it the first port in Malaysia to achieve such a feat.
 
Last month, TMR also reported that the port is in track to hit its 9.2 million TEUs target by year –end.
 
The port has also strengthened its position as the busiest container port in Malaysia after hitting an all-time high of 800,00 TEUs in August.
