Gelang Patah: Eighty secondary school students were exposed to fun-filled activities in an effort to help them improve their confidence in speaking English at a camping programme organised by a shipping company.

Port Tanjung Pelepas deputy chief executive officer Hanif Hamid said the programme aimed to give students the opportunity to enhance their understanding and confidence in mastering the language, in a fun way.

"The main objective of the English Boot Camp was to improve the students" capability in using the language, in an interactive way, while building their self-confidence in doing public speaking at the same time.

"It was also designed to enhance their communication skills, make them look at the language in a positive way as well as to create awareness on the importance of English as a second language," he said.

During the two-day boot camp, students were exposed to a series of activities, which were specially designed to promote teamwork and sharpen their skills in English communication.

Hanif also said the boot camp was part of the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility effort under the PTP 2015 English development programme series which consisted of English tutorial classes and English communication workshops.

"We can see that such programmes have inspired the students to become well-rounded individuals.

"Among the four schools that participated were SMK Taman Nusajaya, SMK Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar, SMK Tanjung Adang and SMK Gelang Patah" he said, adding that the inaugural programme took place at the Savannah Hill Resort in Ulu Tiram, recently.

Hanif said besides the programme, PTP had various plans in the pipeline for education related programmes including UPSR and SPM motivational camps, educational trip to local universities and distribution of schooling aid.
