The representatives from Evergreen and Uniglory lines which are among the largest main line operators in the world, called at PTP site to see the work progress and development plans last week.

Evergreen was represented by its representative in Singapore Chen Chang-Sheng and Uniglory by Capt Ding Yuan-Long.

Members of the delegation also include Evergreen and Uniglory agents in Singapore RTW Shipping (S) Pte Ltd, led by its managing director Patrick Ang, director Patrick Phoon, general manager Peter Ang and assistant general manager Louis Yeo.

PTP executive director Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman was on hand to welcome the delegation and gave a briefing on the project. The briefing touched on PTP's early works to its current state of development.

A discussion held after the briefing also centred on the background of the project, the vision of the company and its plans for success, PTP said in a statement.

The visitors were later taken to the completed berths 1 and 2 where they had a first-hand look at the wharf linear design and the lower portion of PTP's quay cranes currently being erected at berth 1.

They were also shown the Port Administration Building, PTP's IT training centre and the access road leading to PTP.

The visitors who came from Singapore via the second link within an hour were duly impressed by the accessibility to the port. The travelling time from Singapore to PTP will be reduced to a matter of minutes when the access road to the Port entrance is completed by early August.

Phase One of PTP is scheduled for full completion by mid-2001. When completed, the port will enlarge as the newest transhipment hub of the region handling an annual throughput of 3.8 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units).
