Marine Services

To complement the container services provided by Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), Marine Services such as pilotage, towing and ship-to-ship services are also provided for all vessel plying its water limit.

Pilotage is compulsory within the water limit of PTP and is provided daily with minimum notice of 7 days of estimated time of arrival (ETA).



The pilot station is located at Lat. 01° 13.93’ N, Long 103° 31.87’ E. Vessels approaching from the East or westbound lane are advised to approach the channel at an angle of not more than 20 degrees. This is due to the existence of cross current at the entrance area.

A guide for entering the channel will be the first pair of buoys and the sector light. The Racon (M) (3cm) fitted at Tanjung Piai beacon can also be an approaching guide by Parallel Indexing should the need arises.

All vessels operating within the port limit area are under the surveillance of the Port VTMIS. For arrival of vessels: 3 hours minimum notice required for pilot bookings. For vessel’s departure: 3 hours minimum notice required for pilot bookings

With a strength of 45 experienced Pilots, PTP is committed to ensure ZERO DELAY on boarding the vessel as per booking time. In addition to safe and efficient berthing and unberthing  of the vessel within the pilotage district.

The shipmaster upon the advice of the pilot shall determine the number of tugs to be deployed. All tugboats are fitted with firefighting equipment and 45 - 80 tonnes bollard pull with 3000 - 6800 horsepower engines.

Vessel Traffic Management & Information System (VTMIS)


PTP’s Vessel Traffic Management & Information System (VTMIS) operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In progressing with digitalization, Marine Resource Management System (MRMS) a system used for a paperless pilot booking system is implemented at PTP. 

Aside to that, to ensure the safety of navigation for vessels called to the port, PTP uses state of the art SAAB’s CoastWatch and GeoVS.
