Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP), one of Malaysia’s largest container terminals and a joint venture between APM Terminals and MMC Group, recently hosted a ceremony to mark the delivery of 83 electric RTGS from Mitsui E&S, a milestone in the port’s ongoing equipment expansion. The event was attended by PTP Chief Executive Officer Mark Hardiman, Mitsui General Manager Atsufumi Takahashi, and Keisuke Matsumaru from Mitsui’s Tokyo Head Office.
The port told WorldCargo News that the first set of 35 eRTGs was ordered in November 2022 and delivered in five shipments between April 2024 and April 2025, all now fully operational. The second project, comprising 48 units ordered in November 2023, was delivered in six separate shipments from June 2025 through March 2026, with the final eight units currently in the process of being commissioned. The event marked the completion of the delivery of all Mitsui RTGs to the port.
“The acquisition of these eRTGs is a cornerstone of PTP’s Ipsum Magna Program, a strategic optimisation initiative aimed at sustainably upgrading terminal facilities through cutting-edge automation and digitisation,” PTP said.
“Beyond operational excellence, these cranes are central to PTP’s sustainability roadmap. As we drive toward decarbonisation, PTP is committed to achieving a 45% reduction in emissions by 2030, aligning our operations with the goals of the Paris Agreement and a greener maritime future. ”

Furthermore, the port took delivery of eight eRTGs in January 2026, and another eight in the following months, manufactured by ZPMC. As WorldCargo News understands, these are the first of 58 e‑RTGs ordered from ZPMC under a 2025 agreement. The e-RTGs are automation-ready and can be retrofitted for full automation in the future, PTP said in 2025. The units have a SWL of 41t. PTP told WorldCargo News that “the remaining 42 units will be delivered in batches until August 2026.” At the moment, PTP has 250 operable RTGs in its terminal yard, the port added.
