Evergreen begins PTP shift
Fairplay
EVERGREEN Marine has begun its shift from Singapore to Tanjung Pelepas, its new regional container transhipment hub. Two feeder vessels of the Taiwan-based line called at the Malaysian port on August 24 and August 25.
"This week will see the phasing in of Evergreen services," a PTP statement said. The carrier, which signed a terminal service agreement with PTP in April, will be adding six weekly "mother vessel calls" at PTP. The long-haul East and West Coast China-Europe Mediterranean (CEM), the Far East Mediterranean (FEM) and the West Coast-Asia-Europe pendulum services now will start from PTP. "Our growth has received another unprecedented boost," PTP chief executive Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman said. Evergreen is expected to bring in nearly 1M TEU annually, although some services will continue to be operated from Singapore. PTP is also the preferred hub for Maersk line, which holds 30 per cent equity. Three new quay cranes will be commissioned next month
