Evergreen boosts PTP traffic

New Straits Times

Volumes at Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) grew 37 per cent in the first half of 2003, boosted by business from Evergreen Marine. The port’s neighboring Singapore handled 1.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the first six months of the year compared to 1.17 million TEUs in the same period last year. The lion’s share of the growth came from the switch of regional transhipment hubs by Evergreen Marine to PTP from Singapore at the end of August last tear. “We are pleased with the growth levels which were positive despite challenges facing the world economy, “ Datuk Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, PTP chief executive, said. “PTP will continue its focus on building up its land base through additional logistic customers and also Phase Two terminal expansion,”he said.
