Floods: Logistics, transportation industry players rally to provide aid for victims

PETALING JAYA: Several agencies under the Transport Ministry, as well as those affiliated with the transport or logistics industry, are contributing to relief efforts made necessary by the recent floods.

In a statement on Tuesday (Dec 21), the Ministry said these agencies have activated various flood relief efforts to help those affected by the floods, which include staff and members of the public. The following is a summary of efforts at various levels:

Transport Ministry

Flood relief efforts led by Transport secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak, with Ministry officers volunteering to go down to the ground to deliver donations, food, generator sets, mattresses, blankets, and other personal care items to victims.

Road Transport Department

– Replacement fee waived for JPJ documents lost in floods including driving licences, road tax discs, and vehicle ownership certificates, with valid police reports.
– Temporary relief centres in Selangor and Kuantan JPJ centres opened to flood victims with food and necessities provided.
– A total of 46 officers and staff members from Selangor JPJ cooperated with Shah Alam Municipal Council (MBSA) and deployed boats to send food and other relief items to stranded victims.
– Flood relief and clean-up squads deployed in Kuantan.

Land Public Transport Agency

– Thirty volunteers from the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) were deployed to assist flood victims in Puchong, Shah Alam, and Hulu Langat with donations, food, and other necessities.
– RM2,000 in flash funds raised to provide essential food and personal care items for flood victims in Sri Muda.

KTM Bhd

– About 150 flood victims provided shelter at Padang Jawa station, mostly from Kg Padang Jawa, Shah Alam.
– Some 112 KTM staff members at quarters in Batu Tiga, Lorong Gelam, Jalan Kastam, Jalan Aceh, Jalan Padang and Port Klang provided with essential emergency care items.
– In Gua Musang, Kelantan, KTM in cooperation with Nenggiri State Assembly Service Centre and Lembaga Kemajuan Kelantan Selatan (Kesedar) to bring 200 care packages via rail trolley to affected residents in Kg Pan Malayan (Batu 6), Kg Sungai Sirian (Batu 11) and Kg Sungai Sirian (Batu 12).

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd

– Putra Heights Bus Hub used as shelter for flood victims from surrounding areas, who were also given essential foods and household care items.
– RM350,000 in funds allocated for three shelters (PTH and two Rapid KL depots) to accommodate 340 families.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd

– Fundraising donations for purchasing of aid items for flood victims to bolster Transport Ministry efforts and other agencies.
– Deploying volunteers for clean-up efforts in flood-hit areas in Klang Valley.

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd and CCC-ECRL Sdn Bhd

– Several loaders and volunteers deployed to the ECRL project in Section 7 (Bentong) to assist in clean-up efforts at JPK Karak-Kubur India Karak.

 

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB)

– More than 1,000 flood victims and their families around Sepang given food aid and basic necessities under the #MYAirportCARES initiative.
– Flood victims given refuge at Sultan Abdul Samad KLIA mosque and provided with packed meals, dry and instant food, and personal care kits.

 

Marine Department of Malaysia (JLM)

– Provided temporary relief centres at Wisma Pelaut in Port Klang and the Maritime Transport Training Institute in Pulau Indah, Selangor.
– Ongoing emergency fundraising by JLM’s Sports and Welfare Club for flood victims
– Survey boats mobilised to help victims and on standby to assist National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) efforts.

 

Penang Port Commission (SPPP)

– Flood relief contribution of RM100,000 from SPPP and RM50,000 from SPPP (Teluk Ewa) to Nadma for flood victims.
– Clothing donations to flood victims under SPPP Sports and Welfare Club.

 

Port Klang Authority

– Contributed essential food and household items to temporary relief centres in Pulau Indah and Port Klang areas.
– RM20,000 donated for flood relief in Klang Valley.

 

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd

– Contributed essential food items to temporary relief centres around Klang namely SRA Kg Delek, Dewan Palembang Kg Rantau Panjang and SRAI Kg Batu Belah. More to come in collaboration with Northport’s Jawatankuasa Surau-Surau Northport.

 

Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd

– Dewan Serbaguna Tan Sri Gnanalingam, Westports Hall is being used as a relief centre to house flood evacuees.
– Distributed food and essential items to flood victims in Pulau Indah.

 

PKFZ Sdn Bhd

– Rescued stranded Orang Asli at Laguna Pulau Indah and relocated affected residents nearby to temporary relief centre.
– Contributed essential food and household items to flood victims in nearby areas.

 

Johor Port Authority (LPJ)

– 15 volunteers deployed by LPJ to clean homes in surrounding areas and bring relief items to victims.

 

Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP)

– Deployed 15 prime mover drivers for clean-up operations at Port Klang’s Northport terminal affected by flash floods to ensure minimal disruptions to container and cargo movement and the overall logistics supply chain.
