Containerisation International

Singapore port’s closest competitor Port Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) saw first quarter volumes rise steeply as volumes through the recently opened Freezone and local cargo increased.

A 27% increase in cargo saw PTP handle 957,500 TEU in the three months up to the end March this year with a 7.7% increase in the number of vessel calls, which totaled 791 in all.

Productivity also showed significant improvement with the port making some 4,613 moves in less than 16 hours, achieving 302 moves an hour, when handling the 6,600 TEU Skagen Maersk.

PTP Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman said : These latest figures show that PTP continues to register robust growth despite increasingly competitive market conditions.’
