GELANG PATAH: A two-day intensive SPM motivational camp organised by a shipping company benefited some 120 Form Five students to instil motivation in being better students when facing their examinations.

SMK Gelang Patah student Norazira Alaby said she had a great experience and learnt new things during the camp apart from meeting new friends from other schools in the Gelang Patah area.

“The speaker shared many motivational thoughts and gave a lot of positive vibes for us to be a better person to achieve our goals in life,” Norazira said adding that throughout the programme she developed a new spirit to score straight A’s in her SPM examination.

The annual motivation camp held at the Savannah Hill Resort in Ulu Tiram also invited well known motivational speaker Datuk Mohd Fadhilah Kamsah to brighten up the event.

Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) deputy chief executive officer Hanif Hamid said the programme was organised as part of PTP’s continuous commitment in promoting human capital development in its local community.

“Through this programme, we hope that students can benefit greatly and take this opportunity as their first steps toward a successful future.

“Among the four schools participating were SMK Taman Nusajaya, SMK Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar, SMK Tanjung Adang and SMK Gelang Patah,” he said.

Hanif also said that the students were part of the 900 students in Gelang Patah who were involved in the corporate social responsibility education based programme executed by PTP this year.

He said that apart from the programme, PTP also has other various plans in the pipe line for their education related programmes including UPSR, educational trips to local universities and distribution of schooling aid to less fortunate students.

Johor Baru Education Office science and mathematics assistant education officer (Secondary School) Norseha Affandi praised the efforts done by PTP in organising such programmes for the Gelang Patah students and encouraged other corporate companies to follow their efforts in the future.

“This programme will definitely help our students to boost their motivation and self-confidence before they sit for their major exams,” she said adding that continuous efforts are needed from time to time to keep them focused.

Since it was introduced in 2007, over 1,500 secondary students in Gelang Patah had benefited from the programme organised by PTP, a subsidiary of MMC Corporations Bhd.
