The Chief Minister of Johor, YAB Dato' Haji Abdul Ghani bin Othman visited PTP today to obtain a first hand view of PTP’s unprecedented volume growth and to examine possibilities on how to further spur growth in the surrounding areas.
PTP, which handled one million TEUs from January to July 4 2001, is the fastest growing port in the world. PTP has also joined Northport and Westport in achieving its ‘one million TEUs within one year’ catapulting the Malaysian port sector to success with its fast growth.
YAB Menteri Besar Johor making his inaugural working visit to the port was accompanied by Johor state EXCO members and state officials. Receiving him at PTP included PTP Chairman Dato’ Mohd Taufik Abdullah, CEO Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman and the management team. The visit began with breakfast at PTP’s Executive Lounge following which the delegation led by the YAB Menteri Besar Johor was briefed on PTP’s progress by PTP CEO, Mohd Sidik.
Mohd Sidik began the briefing by welcoming YAB MB Johor and delegation stating that “ YAB MB’s visit to PTP will offer us the opportunity to examine possibilities of fast-tracking our land growth specifically the PTP Distripark and PTP’s plans for an industrial area. “
During the briefing, Mohd Sidik touched on PTP’s early strategies for development and its plans to assist the state government in transforming South-west Johor into a major industrial centre, PTP’s volume growth, shipping services at the port for local exporters and future expansion.”
Mohd Sidik also stated “ We could not have grown with such speed without excellent teamwork between the port, state government and other government agencies. PTP’s fast start after securing Maersk Sealand as a customer will now result in emergence of industries around the port area. These industries will in turn create employment opportunities, housing sector growth, manufacturing, research and development and also business opportunities.”
Following the briefing, the delegation was taken for a tour of the terminal including marine control at PTP’s state-of-the-art Port Control Centre, tour of the wharf, container yard and a quick view of the port equipment. The visit ended with a lunch hosted by PTP.
