JST to build RM375mil plant at PTP

The Star

Japan Solderless Terminals (JST), through its Malaysian subsidiary JST Connectors (M) Sdn Bhd, has selected Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) to establish its new US$100mil (RM375mil) integrated plant.

The facility, which will house staffers engaged in production, engineering, research and development, training and sales, will cover an area of 31.46 acres.

The initial cost of US$100mil is expected to increase to more than US$200mil after 10 years.

Among the factors that led JST to select PTP as its new base include the lower operating costs, logistics facilitation with its Singaporean and Indonesian operations, as well as PTP's extensive distribution network to the global market.

“JST's decision to set up operations in the Pelepas Free Zone will create new demands for specific services such as precision parts processing, plastic moulding and stamping contractors,” PTP chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Sidik Osman said in a press statement.

This would have a positive effect on the overall development of South West Johor and the Gelang Patah area specifically, he added.

With annual global sales of more than US$1bil and a global workforce of over 6000, JST is a key supplier to multinational corporations in the electronics, telecommunications and automotive industries.
