Maersk moves NZ service to PTP

Fairplay Shipping daily

MAERSK Sealand’s relocation of its New Zealand service from Hong Kong to Tanjung Pelepas means that more than 90 per cent of its transhipment services will operate from PTP.

The company relocated 85 per cent of its operations from Singapore to PTP when it ended its long standing agreement with PSA Corp last August. The New Zealand and Western Australian services were retained in Singapore but, following problems with PSA Corp over waiting periods, the New Zealand service was moved to Modern Terminals in Hong Kong because it could not be relocated to PTP at the time due to teething problems at the fledgling Malaysian facility. PTP has since boosted its capacity, ordered more cranes and jump-started the second phase to cope with growing box volumes. The port is poised to handle 2M TEU this year.
