KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Reuters) - Malaysia's Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) will in a few weeks unveil a deal with Taiwan's Evergreen Marine to move operations from Singapore, Berita Harian newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The paper's unnamed sources said that, after several hitches, PTP would announce winning over the shipping giant from neighbouring Port of Singapore Authority (PSA).
PTP wrestled the world's largest shipping line, Maersk Sealand, away from Singapore in 2000. The firm is owned by Danish oil and shipping group A.P. Moeller .
PSA Chairman Yeo Ning Hong was quoted in Tuesday's edition of The Straits Times newspaper in Singapore as saying his port would not slash handling rates to compete with PTP.
The Malaysian port in the southern state of Johor is a unit of Malaysia Mining Corp , one of several listed firms controlled by secretive businessman Syed Mokthar Albukhary.
