Orang Asli kids get back-to-school goodies

New Straits Times

ONE hundred and 60 Orang Asli students of Kampung Simpang Arang in Gelang Patah recently received school necessities contributed by Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) in conjunction with the start of the new school term.

The children were given school bags, stationery, shoes, umbrellas and pocket money of RM100 each for them to buy school uniforms.

Student Mas Ayu Tan Ah Lia, 14, who received the contribution with her brother Tan Poh Chou, 13 said this is the third time she received such a contribution.

“We look forward to this programme every year.

“This would lessen the burden of my father Tan Ah Li, 30, who is a fisherman, and mother Yam Tan, 29,” said Mas Ayu, the second of six siblings.

Present at the ceremony were Nusajaya assemblyman Datuk Abd Aziz Sapian, PTP General Manager of Human Resources Zakaria Abdul Rahman and Kampung Simpang Arang village development and security committee chairman Noore Kasi.

Aziz said he was proud of PTP as the corporation was keen to help the Orang Asli students in the village.
