THE Orang Asli community may be a minority in Johor but they are not forgotten.

The state government has plans to improve their livelihood through education, infrastructure, economic development and agriculture.

Private corporations have also been roped into the community.

Recently, the Orang Asli community in Simpang Arang, Gelang Patah, enjoyed various benefits from Port of Tanjung Pelepas Berhad.

The company has adopted the village and will provide education to children and offer jobs to youths.

So far, 10 youths have been given jobs at the company.

Mohd Firdaus Sanusi, 20, who is an auxiliary police trainee at PTP, said he was happy with his job and salary.

"I have been looking for a stable job for a long time.

"Before this, I was working as a pump attendant at a petrol station, earning a meagre salary," he said.

Mohd Firdaus' friend, Hero Koming, 22, echoed the same sentiments after becomng an auxiliary police trainee.

"Now that we have jobs, our families will also enjoy a better life," Hero said.
