Joint effort: Tanjung Pelepas Port ropes in several government and private agencies for its beach clean-up and mangrove-planting programme
The Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP) is continuing its efforts to conserve nature through its Tanjung Piai beach clean-up programme with the help of several agencies.
The clean-up, which includes planting of 500 mangroves saplings, is being done in collaboration with the Marine Department, Environment Department, Pontian District Office and Johor National Parks.
PTP deputy chief executive officer, Azlan Shahrim said during the clean-up, 1,111kg of rubbish was collected along the beach.
"The planting of mangroves is a long-term solution to curb erosion, besides controlling the level of pollution, "said Azlan.
The other agencies involved in the programme are the Civil Defence Department, Forestry Department, Johor Port Bhd and Senai Airport Terminal and Services Sdn Bhd.
Present at the clean-up were Marine department deputy director general Baharin Abd Hamid and Johor Environment Department director Mokhtar Abdul Majid.
Azlan said PTP will continue its efforts, especially in developing areas such as Sungai Pulai to maintain the natural ecosystem.
"We are grateful to the other agencies involved and hope that everyone will play a part in monitoring the situation, "he said.
Baharin also urged the public to preserve the mangroves.
