Port levy lifted from trucks
Cargonews Asia
Trucks sending containerised goods from Singapore across the Second Causeway to the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) are no longer subject to a levy.
The news was recently published in the Malaysian government Gazette. Nor, it continued, will there be any levy on trucks carrying Singapore-bound goods from PTP.
Transport Minister, Ling Liong Sik, said Malaysian manufacturers now realise the economic benefits of using domestic ports rather than shipping goods from abroad.
The move is considered a helping hand to PTP, aiding it in its efforts to become known as an alternative trans-shipment port to Singapore. It means that Singapore exporters and importers won't incur unnecessary costs while shipping through Malaysia's newest port.
