Port Of Tanjung Pelepas Hits 800,000 TEUs
Bernama
The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has strengthened its position as the country's busiest container port after hitting an all-time high of 800,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) last month.
The Malaysia's biggest single port operator, in a statement today, said the latest record firmly placed PTP on the road to achieve the total container throughput target of 9.2 million TEUs this year.
PTP, a subsidiary of MMC Corporation Bhd, registered a growth of 8.9 per cent in container volume for the first eight months of this year compared with the same period last year.
"Positive improvements on productivity in container operations and better optimisation of resources were the main reason behind this breakthrough," PTP Chief Executive Officer Glen Hilton said.
With strong support from existing customers as well as volume from new customers, he said PTP is confident that it is on track to continue its significant growth.
Last year, PTP handled 8.5 million TEUs container throughput and simultaneously became the first port in Malaysia to achieve such feat.
The port operator was also one of the only three ports in the world that recorded a double-digit growth and placed 18th in world's top port rankings 2014.
