Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) plans to expand its capacity next year through its Phase 3A development project costing RM5 billion.
Johor Port Authority (LPJ) general manager Muhammad Razif Ahmad said the development will increase PTP's capacity from 10.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) currently to 15 million TEUs when completed in 2019.
"PTP is now operating under Phase 2 and has 14 wharves totalling 5km," he told reporters at the launch of LPJ Port Week 2015, which was officiated by LPJ chairman Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli here yesterday.
Muhammad Razif said under Phase 3A, three wharves measuring 1.5km will be built, of which one is targeted to be operational by end-2018.
He said LPJ has plans for PTP until 2045 and the port has ample space for expansion.
LPJ Port Week 2015 started last Saturday and lasts until Thursday. The annual event organised by LPJ with the cooperation of Johor Port Bhd and PTP aims to introduce and promote ports in the state and highlight their services to port users.
Events include exhibitions by the Road Transport Department and the Department of Civil Aviation, an innovation exhibition by the Malaysian Association of Creativity and Innovation and Green Port Conference 2015.
