Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), a joint venture between Malaysia’s MMC Group and the Netherlands’ APM Terminals (APMT), handled 14.02 million TEUs in 2025, becoming the first single container terminal in Malaysia to surpass the 14 million TEU mark.
The milestone builds on previous record highs of 11.2 million TEUs in 2021 and 12.3 million TEUs in 2024, reflecting consistent operational performance.
December proved particularly notable, with PTP reaching both 13 million and 14 million TEUs within the same month, on 6 and 31 December 2025, respectively.
PTP’s Free Zone operations also recorded growth, with an 8 per cent increase over 2024, driven by demand for e-commerce, FMCGs, sports apparel, auto parts and construction materials.
The zone’s 7 million square feet of warehouse space achieved a 98 per cent occupancy rate, supported by new distribution hub setups from multinational and local companies.
The 25th Anniversary was celebrated with a Gala Night attended by government representatives, regulators, shipping customers, free zone tenants, and industry partners.
Special recognitions were presented, including awards for long-standing partnerships, throughput leadership, and free zone excellence.
Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, highlighted PTP’s strategic position and performance, noting that the port is on track to enter the world’s top 10 ports.
In December 2025,
PTP announced that it is set to electrify its prime mover fleet as part of its ongoing sustainability and digital transformation strategy.
