PTP aims to boost handling capacity with new cranes

Malaysia’s Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has signed a contract with manufacturer IMPSA (Malaysia) for the supply of three new super post panamax quayside container cranes and 15 rubber tyred gantry (RTG) yard cranes.
 
The cranes will be deployed at the port’s new Phase Two development site, and are intended to boost handling capacity, said a statement from port authorities.
 
The three quayside by the port so far, they are able to handle 40 foot container twin lifts weighing up to 80 tonnes.
 
The order will bring the number of super post panamax quayside cranes in operation at the port to 27. They are to be complemented by the delivery of the 15 new RTGs in the second quarter of 2005. The RTGs have a load capacity of 40 tonnes.
 
PTP currently has 57 RTGs which have been retrofitted with Kalmar Smartrail satellite guidance systems.
 
The Malaysian Minister of Transport, YB Datuk Sri Chan Kong Choy, witnessed the contract singing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur between representatives from PTP and IMPSA recently.
 
IMPSA (Malaysia) is a joint venture between IMPSA of Argentina, with Emir Equity and Permodalan Nasional Berhad of Malaysia.
