PTP's winning project, entitled "The PTP Community System", outlined the integration of various port information systems into a community information portal.
It enables the port and its user community to achieve higher efficiency in carrying out port business transactions previously unseen in the Malaysian port industry.
PTP chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman said the port was honoured by the recognition given by the judges and would continue to innovate and pioneer new advances in electronic commerce to ensure PTP remained at the forefront of technological advancement as the region's leading transhipment hub.
The 2004 eASIA Awards is sanctioned by the Asia Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (AFACT) based in Taipei.
Meanwhile, MASkargo, KLIA Advanced Cargo Centre, PTP, Westport and KTM Bhd have been nominated for the Asia Logistics Awards 2004 to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 7.
The local companies are likely recipients of the air cargo carrier of the year, air cargo terminal of the year, best container terminal of the year and rail operator of the year awards respectively.
Organised by Lloyds FTB Asia, the ceremony will be held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The guest of honour is former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The event will also honour excellence in nine other categories including airfreight forwarder of the year, express and mail operator of the year, lead logistics provider of the year, project forwarder of the year, seafreight operator of the year, shipping line of the year, supply chain software provider of the year, the 3pl award and the youth development award.
Other companies in the running for the awards are giants like Schenker, DHL, Maersk Sealand, SAP, Kuehne & Nagel and OOCL.
Commenting on Westport's nomination for the container terminal of the year award, Westport executive chairman Tan Sri G. Gnanalingam said: "This is a reflection of the productivity achievements, customer satisfaction and overall capability of the port in general,"
Competing with Westport for the same prize will be Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) and PSA as well as PTP.
Sidik said PTP was honoured to be among the finalists for the best container terminal category.
"This is the industry's recognition of our track record or robust throughput growth and rising reputation as Asia's most efficient container port."
There will also be two extra prizes, namely the Hall of Fame Award and the Supply Chain Manager of the Year Award, whose winners will be chosen by senior Lloyds FTB Asia staff.
The judges for the other categories include Federation of Malaysian Manufaturers logistics committee chairman Mohd Radwan Alami, Singapore Shippers Council chairman John Lu and International Air Cargo Association chairman Dora Kay.
Over 400 guests from the entire spectrum of the region's supply chain and logistics industries are expected to attend the event.
