PELABUHAN Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhn (PTP) recently organised its annual “Back to School Programme” held at Gelang Patah Community Hall.
This year, a total of 210 under privileged students from schools in Gelang Patah area were chosen to receive school aid worth approximately RM100 each, Including stationery sets and school bags.
According to PTP CEO Marco Neelsen , this programme is focussed on underprivileged families and to help the students prepare for the new school year.
“This year will be our tenth consecutive year organising the “Back to Scholl Programme” since it first started in 2007.
“The programme is just one of many education-based initiatives planned by PTP throughout the year with the aim of lessening the parents ‘ burden , while helping them prepare school supplies for new academic year , and bringing cheer to the students by providing them with brand-new basic equipment as they start returning to school ,’ said Neelsen.
In addition, Neelsen added that all PTP’s corporate social responsibility (CSR)-based programmes have been a great investment for Johor as they contribute to developing valuable human capital for the state.
“We see our efforts as a sound investment into the future for Johor, and Malaysia as a whole, knowing that good education is foundation of the growth and wellbeing of this country.
“Also, this is in line with the state government’s aspiration to have a sustainable human capital supply in Johor,” he said.
Neelsen added that the programme is part of a series of events organised by PTP, which has been consistent at giving back to the community around its area of operations.
Speaking at the event, Nusajaya assemblyman Dr Zaini Abu Bakar said it is encouraging to see the government-linked company give prominence to educational-based programmes as education creates empowerment for the upward social mobility.
“As such, it is good to see a corporate company like PTP giving opportunities to these underprivileged students to pursue their education in the most comfortable manner ,as well as continuously enriching its surrounding communities via other CSR-based activities ,” said Zaini.
Nur Fazura Misni , one of the recipients from SK Tiram Duku , said she appreciates the support from PTP as it helps to prepare them for the new school term.
“I’m grateful and excited to receive the aid from PTP. Also, I’m more motivated to start the new school term and will work even harder to achieve good results next year,” she said.
Also present at the event were Johor Baru education officer Shaharuddin Saari, school principals, teachers and parents of students involved in the programme.
At the same time, PTP has organised other educational-based programmes such as English tuition, English boot camp, English communication workshop, motivational camps and educational trips to local universities.
