PTP exceeds 2001 targets

International Transport Journal

The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) achieved a throughput of 2.05 million TEU in 2001 surpassing its own target of 2 million TEU. The 2.05 million TEU represent an approximately five-fold increase over 2000's 418,000 TEU. A total of 2,286 containership calls were made at PTP in 2001. By year-end, PTP also achieved excellent productivity levels with an average of 29 moves per hour per crane.

Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, chief executive officer of PTP, said: "The 2.05 million TEU are a reflection of PTP's resilience in facing the current economic outlook. We have all our customers and port staff to thank for this. Although the shipping and port sector has seen volumes drop, PTP's exceeding of its targets can be attributed to the increasing local cargo through PTP both from the port free zone area and the local hinterland."

In November 2001, PTP also retained its "Best Emerging Container Terminal Award" by Lloyd's List Maritime Asia for the second year running. The award recognised PTP's high growth achievement with high productivity. In June last year, PTP also gained international recognition by winning the "Best Project Award" from FIABCI (International Real Estate Federation).
