The various service agreements recently negotiated between Marseilles-based CMA CGM and Maersk Line will fuel additional cargo through the Malaysian hub at Port Tanjung Pelepas (PTP).
Indeed, some CMA CGM services including the following are now calling at the port, which is managed by APM Terminals, a sister company of Maersk:
- The New Bosphorus Express service which runs between Asia and the Black Sea
- Columbus service which connects Asia with North America's Pacific North West region.
Simon Whitelaw, managing director of CMA CGM in Malaysia, told CI eXpress that the carrier's main hub in South East Asia - Port Klang - would not be changed, but for some loops operated with Maersk it made 'logistical sense' to also route some cargo over PTP.
CMA CGM becomes PTP's fourth principal customer. Its other accounts include Maersk Line, Evergreen and MISC.
