Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group and Johor Port Authority (JPA) recently brought Hari Raya Aidilfitri cheer to three different charity homes in Gelang Patah, Johor.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme was part of a collaboration effort by both organisations to share the happiness of the festive season with the residents while also giving some aid to the homes.

Located within Johor Bahru, the three charity homes were a shelter for women called Baitus Solehah, a community rehabilitation centre for the disabled PDK (community-based rehabilitation) Nusajaya and Kasih Rohani Care Centre, an old folks’ home.

A total of 130 residents celebrated with scrumptious Hari Raya delicacies such as “nasi briyani”. In addition to providing cheer during this festive month, food aids including rice, flour, cooking oil and diapers, among others, were also handed over during the mini celebrations.

JPA GM Kamaruzaman Munasir said this year was made extra special by also celebrating birthdays of the residents as volunteers were not able to mingle with the residents on such celebrations for the past two years.

“Gestures like these, although small, will be very memorable and have a great effect on their lives,” he said in a recent statement.

Meanwhile, PTP CEO Marco Neelsen noted that since 2018, it has been a tradition for both PTP and JPA to celebrate residents of charity homes during festive seasons.

“Apart from sharing the joy of Hari Raya, about 35 PTP and JPA volunteers were able to connect, build meaningful relationships with the residents and give back to the community,” he said.

Azura Muhammad, a supervisor at PDK Nusajaya, expressed gratitude towards the effort taken by big organisations such as PTP and JPA to celebrate with its physically challenged residents.

“Celebrating Hari Raya together with the volunteers makes the residents very happy and it also allows them to practise their social skills and improve self-confidence interacting with outsiders,” she said.

PTP and JPA have been celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri and giving out aid together for more than four years.

The programmes have not only helped the development of a sustainable community but also as an avenue for the staff to continuously give back to the community via CSR activities.
