PORT of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) and Johor Port Authority (LPJ) continue to make an impactful change and bring joy to the Gelang Patah community through the annual Tijarah Ramadhan Programme.

Held from May 11-14, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) event was organised as part of a collaboration effort by PTP and LPJ to support and give assistance to unprivileged and disadvantaged families, especially those who are severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic during the month of Ramadhan.

This year, 170 identified families from five villages — namely Kam- pung Pok, Kampung Ladang, Kampung Tanjung Adang, Kam- pung Pekajang and Kampung Tiram Duku in Mukim Tanjung Kupang — received the special aid in the form of cash and essential goods.

LPJ GM Muhammad Razif Ahmad remarked that the collaboration between the government and local conglomerate MMC Corp Bhd and port operator PTP is much commended.

He said this demonstrates the best synergy between private business entities and government sectors in spurring the economic growth of the state and nation, and alleviating the community’s standard of living through various outreach programmes.

“As the port grows and continues to be successful, it is important that the community surrounding it is not forgotten,” he added.

Reflecting his LPJ counterpart, PTP CEO Marco Neelsen remarked that this year, the programme brought them closer to the local community since it coincides with the Covid-19 crisis.

“With the threat of the coronavirus still looming, our volunteers worked closely with the village representatives in distributing the aid to recipients without jeopardising their safety.

“It was important for all of us involved to swiftly respond, commit and contribute to this crisis. We pulled all the stops to ensure the aid was procured quickly and transported in a timely and safe manner,” he added.

Tanjung Kupang head of Mukim Mohamad Faiz Mohd Pandi extended the community’s gratitude towards MMC, PTP and LPJ for continuously supporting the local villagers especially during this festive season and Covid-19 pandemic.

Alimah Arsat, a single mother from Kampung Tiram Duku said she was delighted to receive donations from PTP and LPJ as it would greatly help her preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya.

Throughout the years, PTP has been actively conducting various CSR efforts which cater to Gelang Patah communities such as providing the Container Library for SK Ladang Pendas, English tuitions for secondary students, Primary School Achievement Test and Malaysian Certificate of Education motivational camp, Back to School programmes, Gotong Royong activities and bubur lambuk distributions.
