PTP, Noell sign crane deal

Fairplay

Malaysia's Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) today (September 27) signed an agreement with Italy’s Noell Crane Systems for supply of five quayside cranes and 15 rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs). The quayside cranes will have an outreach of 60 m and will be able to handle 22 boxes across a container vessel. Total cost is RM150M ($39.4M).

The cranes and the RTGs are due to be installed by the end of 2002. The quayside cranes will be fabricated in Italy and will be equipped with a twin-lift spreader capable of handling two 20-ft containers at one time. “We have made this purchase essentially because PTP’s fast growth has resulted in PTP receiving almost daily the largest of container vessels in the world,” said PTP chairman Mohd Taufik Abdullah at the signing ceremony in Johor.
