PTP recognised for highest productivity among worldwide ports

APM Terminals, whose port network spans five continents, bestowed the award on PTP based on the port’s consistent high-performance and service levels over the past year.

PTP has also been recognised as the Best Terminal for 2005 by Maersk Line, the world’s biggest shipping line after its recent merger with P&O Nedlloyd. This award is given to the port with the highest level of productivity and efficiency produced for Maersk Line vessels worldwide.

PTP was named Asia’s Container Terminal of the Year in 2004, and has shown consistently high levels of service for all lines calling at one of the region’s major transhipment hubs. That year, PTP set a world record of an average of 340 moves per hour, when about 4,000 boxes were shifted within thirteen hours on the Maersk line vessel, the AP Moller.

Today, PTP is one of the fastest growing ports in the world, and is fast gaining status as a premier transhipment hub by handling 4 million TEU per year after only five years of operations.

PTP recently took delivery of three new Super-Post Panamax cranes from IMPSA. The three cranes, reported to be the largest in the world, bring the total number of PTP’s super post-panamax cranes to 27, with 13 fitted for twin-lift container operations.

The purchase of these cranes is in line with the port’s Phase 2 expansion plans, which include the construction of two new berths due for completion by the end of this year. Once completed, PTP will be able to handle up to 8 million TEU per year.

With most ports in the world constantly facing congestion and capacity constraints as well as the introduction of bigger vessels with deeper draft requirements, PTP remains the only port in the region that has the capacity to readily cater for container traffic growth over the next fifteen years with facilities that can handle vessels of up to 250,000 dwt and draft requirements of 19 metres.
