PTP's gotong royong cleans up school in Gelang Patah

PELABUHAN Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) recently organised the fifth PTP 2016 Gotong Royong Perdana as part of its commitment to improving the environmental sustainability and general lifestyle of its local community.
Started in 2013, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) event aims to create a bond between PTP staff and the local community, as well as promoting greater awareness of the wellbeing of public amenities surrounding PTP.
This time around, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tiram Duku, Gelang Patah, was chosen as the target location to be spruced up. More than 100 PTP volunteers, parents and teachers took part in the programme to clean and renew the school compound.
PTP CEO Marco Neelsen said the company is fully committed to giving back to the community and strengthening the sense of solidarity among PTP staff and the local people.
"With this Gotong Royong Perdana event, we are not only taking the opportunity to engage with our community but also provide an avenue or these school children to learn more on the important of taking care of their school surroundings," said Neelsen.
"The programme allows local residents and PTP volunteer to explore their surrounding issues, participate in problem solving and take action to improve the situation. With the students, they can develop a greater awareness towards the need to stud/ in positive, healthy and comfortable surroundings," Neelsen added.
SK Tiram Duku headmistress Norhawa Yusuf lauded the CSR efforts taken by PTP by organising activities that help the school maintain its facilities and overall cleanliness.
"The awareness and lesson cultivated in the programme help the students and parents to better appreciate their schools. The parents now have a much better understanding of the importance of having a conducive learning environment whereas the students are now more motivated to change their habits to ensure that their school remain clean and beautiful,” added Norhawa.
Throughout 2016, PTP had organised various CSR programmes that contribute to the local community. They include cricket and football tournament for primary school children, Bubur Lambuk distribution during Ramadhan, and Hari Raya aid distribution.
