PTP, Senai Airport Offer Facilities For Tsunami Relief Operations

The Senai International Airport (Senai) and the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), both providing excellent regional and international connections by sea, air, road and rail, have now teamed up to offer their facilities to international aid agencies to help the tsunami victims.

The PTP said in a statement Tuesday that difficulty in reaching the tsunami-stricken areas could be overcome with the use of the multimodal facilities available in Johor, which is closely located to Sumatra.

"The multimodal synergy between Senai and the Port of Tanjung Pelepas will enable effective redistribution of essential relief items by sea or air," it said.

Furthermore, there is a minimal distance of 30km from Senai and the PTP.

Both Senai and the PTP have the capacity and capability to act as a staging point for international relief operations currently underway for the tsunami-stricken areas and in particular, the devastated province of Acheh.
Senai is also suitable for the role of receiving long-range aircraft that will need landing and refuelling services including those using the trans-Pacific route from the US west coast to hard-hit Sri Lanka
