Port of Tanjung Pelepas has signed a RM150 million deal with Italian port equipment manufacturer Noell Crane Systems Gmbh for the purchase of quayside and rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to enable the port to cope with the increasing volume of container vessels seeking its services
Under the deal, Noell will supply PTP with five quayside cranes and 15 RTG cranes as part of the port’s M2.8 billion Phase One project all to be in full operation by March next year.
At a signing ceremony yesterday, PTP chairman Datuk Mohd Taufik Abdullah said the new equipment is in addition t the 14 cranes and 42 RTG cranes already operational at the port.
Under Phase One, PTP will have a total of six linear berths each totaling 2.16km, 24 quayside cranes and 72 RTG cranes, and an annual handling capacity of between 4.5 million and five million twenty-foot equivalent untis (TEUs).
Noell wa srepresneted by Noell Fantuzzi Regianne Group Chief Executive Officer Davide Bertozzi.
The signing of the MoU marks Noell’s foray into the Malaysian port equipment market since an unofficial policy making Argentina based Impsa the sole supplier of quayside gantry cranes to local ports was lifted by the Government.
Bearing this in mind, Noell has decided to set up a Malaysian production base for quayside cranes to further consolidate its position.
