THE Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has officially opened its maintenance and repair (M&R) service arm, Pelepas - Brigantine Container Services Sdn Bhd (PBCS).
The function held at the port's Administration Building was attended by more than 100 guests, comprising representatives from shipping lines, third party logistics providers, shippers, government officials and port personnel.
PBCS is a joint-venture effort between PTP and Brigantine Services Limited of Hong Kong, an established M&R services company based in Hong Kong with branches in several major ports in China.
Brigantine's Hong Kong managing director, Lars Bo Gronsedt, said: " PBCS, a partnership between Brigantine Services Limited of Hong Kong and PTP will be able to draw on the strengths of its parent companies and in turn offer competitive costs and high quality M&R services to port users."
Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, PTP's chief executive officer in his opening speech said: "The official opening of Pelepas - Brigantine Container Services Sdn Bhd is a vital step for PTP in its effort to provide comprehensive container services to current and potential customers.
The on-dock facility will also ensure that containers delivered to local shippers will meet their requirements. We also see this as having a direct result of increased local usage of PTP."
After the speech, an exchange of shareholder agreements and mementos took place between Mohd Sidik and Mr Gronsedt.
The guests were then ushered to PBCS office for the ribbon-cutting ceremony before adjourning to lunch and a tour of the PBCS M&R facilities at the port.
PBCS operates at a 6,000 square metre on-dock area at the back of Berth 6 of PTP.
