PTP takes delivery of 5 RTGs

The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) last week received five rubber-tired gantries (RTGs) from Noell Crane Systems GmbH of Italy.
The RTGs are the second batch of 15 RTGs to be supplied by Noell to PTP. According to PTP, operations to off-load the RTGs from delivery barge Zhong Ren 702 to the terminal went smoothly, and were witnessed by PTP chief executive officer Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, key customers and port staff.
Commented the chief executive: gThis latest delivery of the RTGs increases our yard planning and terminal efficiency. It also increases the port cfs handling capacity which for phase one, will eventually be around 4.5 to five million TEUs per annum, benefiting both current and future potential customers.hDelivered to PTP in fully erect form, the quay cranes were fabricated in Xiamen. Zhong Ren 702 took eight days to arrive at PTP.
The final batch of five RTGs from Noell will be delivered by the end of the second quarter. Another 15 units of RTGs will be acquired by end-2002 to take the total number of units for PTPfs phase one operation to 72 units.
