THE Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), Southeast Asia's fastest growing transshipment hub has taken delivery of two more Chinese-made MMC-ZPMC super post-panamax quayside cranes. The cranes were delivered by the 234-metre long bulk vessel, the Zheng Hua 3.
The port now has five of the same model crane following these latest arrivals, which comes a year after PTP signed an agreement with the manufacturer for their supply.
Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, chief executive officer of PTP, said: "The delivery is timely given the increasing volumes handled at PTP. The cranes are also the largest in southeast Asia and prepare PTP for the next generation of container vessels."
PTP now has 24 super post-panamax quayside cranes, which are projected to be able to handle the port's increase in capacity of between 4.5 million - 5 million TEU annually.
The new cranes have an outreach of 60 metres and can handle 22 boxes across a container vessel. They are also equipped with twin-lift spreaders, capable of handling two 20-foot containers at one time. In addition, the cranes come equipped with an articulated gantry system, enabling them to negotiate curves for better manoeuvring between PTP Phase I and Phase II, the port said.
