PTP targets 5.0 million TEUs a year with new cranes

Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) handling capacity is expected to increase to 5.0 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) a year with the receipt of its additional yard cranes.

Its chief executive officer Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman said the port took delivery of five new Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes today.The second batch from a total of RTG cranes to be supplied to it by Noell CraneSystems GmbH of Italy.
 
With this delivery and commissioning, PTP will soon have 52 RTGs operational for its yard.The final batch of 5 RTgs from Noell will be delivered by end of second quarter of 2002,a statement from PTP said.
 
PTP had received the first batch of five units of RTG cranes from Noell in January this year, together with two units of the Super Post Panamax quayside by end 2002 to make to the total number of RTGs for PTP’s Phase 1 operation to 72 units.
