The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Malaysia handled approximately 560,000 TEU in the third quarter of this year from July to September, up 3.5 per cent over the second quarter's 541,000 TEU. Handling volumes from January to September totalled 1.48 million TEU. The third quarter also saw PTP increasing its productivity levels to a consistent 28 gross moves per hour per crane.

In congratulating the port staff, PTP CEO Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, said: "Despite the present gloomy economic outlook, PTP's growth in volumes reflects strong user confidence. The increasing local support has also helped maintain good growth levels. With current economic levels uncertain, PTP is increasing all measures to secure new users to the terminal. What helps is the excellent productivity levels at PTP. We wish to thank all our customers who helped us streamline processes for mutual benefit."

The third quarter of this year saw PTP increasing its capacity with the purchase of an additional five quay cranes with 15 rubber-tyred gantry cranes due for delivery in the first quarter of next year. PTP also signed on a new vessel traffic system to ensure smooth flow in the channel. PTP's Distribution Park was also a focus where Tiong Nam Trading & Transport began operations in its warehouse joining Pelepas Logistics and Kenwood Logistics as early anchor tenants. Two more warehouses are being constructed at PTP, one by Malaysian Industrial Estates (MIEL), and the other by PTP.
