Construction of the wharfs is expected to take 15 months and on completion, they will have the capacity to handle six million to seven million TEUs per yea, Abdul Ghani told reporters after a tour of the port in Gelang Patah, near here yesterday.

He said the since the port, the second in Johor, began its operations 18 months ago, it has been able to handle one million TEUs and this figure is expected to increase to two million TEUs by year-end.

“I consider that as a fast development and proof that PTP is on par with other ports globally, providing efficient service in the handling of cargo from the largest ships around the world,” he said.

He also expressed confidence that PTP will continue to expand as a leading container port in the region, in view of its strategic location, and competitiveness.
