PTP plans to construct 2 additional berths, says Mr Harun.
SINGAPORE rival Port of Tanjung Pelepas’ volumes grew 14.5% last year and is looking to expand its capacity further.
PTP, Malaysia’s largest terminal operator, handled 5.5m teu in 2007. The port attributed volume growth strong global container trade particularly on the Asia-Europe trade.
The terminal operator, which is 30% owned by APM Terminals, is planning to expand its capacity with an additional two berths.
“We are currently working together to further deepen the access channel. This coupled with the planned construction of two new additional berths will ensure PTP continues to provide the needed capacity and meet the high productivity levels demanded by its customers,” said Harun Johari, chief executive of PTP.
