PTP To Focus On High Value Customers

The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) is aiming to attract more high value customers to invest in the future growth of the port.
"We need to grow whether it is going to be double digit growth or double the size over three to five years," its newly appointed chief executive officer, Harun Johari, told reporters Tuesday.
"Getting high value customers will be good for our country especially in terms of technology transfer, and impact on Malaysians," he said at a press conference here to announce CIBA Vision's decision to invest RM500 million in Malaysia.
The latter, one of PTP's top customers, is making the investment to build an integrated contact lens production facility in the Tanjung Pelepas Free Trade Zone.
Harun said the transshipment market was very competitive with Singapore next door and China as well.
To remain competitive, he said PTP would play a pro-active role and be more aggressive to meet the challenges.
Established in 1999, PTP has served as a catalyst for the development of southern Johor as an international logistics hub.
The Tanjung Pelepas Free Trade Zone offers over 400 hectares of land with excellent infrastructure to global and local suppliers through a link of land transportation including railway and highways as well as seaport and airport in Johor.
With limited land available, PTP has to look out for the high niche market or customers who would provide better margin and profitability.
