PTP upgrades tracking tracking system
Fairplay
Malaysia’s Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has signed agreement for the latest vessel traffic system (VTS), known as the Radar Processing and Display System (RAPADS), to be installed in September 2002. Parties to the agreement include French company Sofrelog and Malaysia’s Puncak Teknologi, which will provide the visual system.
The system is expected to enable efficient flow of vessel in PTP waters. “This will be especially critical with our expansion plans and optimum turnaround time,” said PTP Chief Executive Officer Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman.
Average monthly container throughput at PTP has touched 150,000 TEU. The port, whose major customer is its equity partner Maersk Sealand, has targeted around 2M TEU for the whole year.
